Commercialise research

The transition from research concept to commercial product is often challenging. For researchers, success in this area, particularly the impact of commercialization, is frequently linked to securing further funding and career progression. We have decades of experience in developing prototypes and proofs of concept, planning and identifying feature requirements, growing development teams, taking products to market and managing the software development process. We can also help identify product-market fit and in pitch creation and delivery.

This service is for the researchers and teams who have identified the potential for commercial products, but want help to develop that potential into products that can attract commercial investment and/or generate income. Contact us when you are developing plans for commercialization and we can help you refine your pitch and identify markets as well as helping with the whole software development lifecycle.

Why work with us?

  • Enhance your capabilities by working with a creative partner who has considerable experience in commercial development practice.
  • Build out your team with the knowledge that we can help identify reliable collaborators.
  • Enjoy the process of seeing your research ideas take shape into tangible products.

Our proven capability

We can help deliver software artefacts across a wide range of platforms, including virtual and augmented reality, mobile, web and desktop environments. We have also integrated software with custom hardware and low powered devices. We specialize in real-time visualization, AI and network enabled architectures like digital twins. As a concrete example:

Case Study: StoryBricks

Challenge
A start-up CEO wanted to develop a new technology to power emotionally capable user generated content for use within massively multiplayer games (MMO).

Solution
Working with a small team, we developed a new approach similar to the “scratch” language by MIT. It allowed user generated content to drive emotional interactions between players and non-player characters (NPC’s) to enable new kinds of online storytelling experiences. After a round of pitching to funders, this novel technology was then licensed exclusively by Sony Online Entertainment of America for their MMO’s, allowing the CEO to recoup his investment.

Impact

We developed a commercially valuable IP and technology based on a novel research-informed storytelling approach that allows users to create richer stories.
