When people come together to explore and develop ideas, spark and creativity are not guaranteed outcomes. These spaces require care and planning to create the right environment for meaningful collaboration.

We design everything from one-day workshops to long-term research labs, shaping each space around the people, purpose, and stage of the work. Our inclusive methods draw on our co-created Collaboration with Care toolkit, using value-led facilitation, clear ways of working, and carefully designed routes from participation to progress.

How we do it

Turn ideas into activity. We design structured sessions that help people move from open exploration to useful, actionable ideas.

Bring the right people in. Involving the right creatives, at the right moment, can be provocative and productive.

Draw out everyone’s talent. Devise activities that build confidence, rapport, and participation across different disciplines, roles, and levels of experience.

Keep the process moving. Manage the shape, pace, and energy of the session so participants can focus on contributing, not navigating the process.

Make creativity useful. Workshop activity should lead to clear outputs, next steps, and material that can support the development of a research project.

In practice: assessing generative AI with Indigenous artists

Research context

Working with South American Indigenous artists on the AIAI project raised two questions: How accurately are AI image generation tools able to represent those communities? What does the accuracy of those images mean for communities facing misrepresentation and struggling to defend their rights?

Facilitating creative activities

We created a collaborative research environment where Indigenous People, artists, and community leaders were nurtured and shared values could be emphasised. With consent, we engineered a private AI image generation platform to safely experiment with representations of identity and culture., facilitated group discussions, and hosted an exhibition of selected results to spark public debate.

Research impact

Through a bespoke AI prototype and week-long workshop, participants interrogated bias, misrepresentation, and cultural extraction within generative systems through collective experimentation and discussion.

By placing Indigenous perspectives at the centre of the research process, the project established an artist-led research method for examining AI through cross-cultural collaboration; contributing to wider debates around representation, technological colonialism and emerging technologies.
